Finding the Balance With Work & an Online Degree

As the quality of online education improves, getting your degree from the comfort of your own home is becoming a more attractive option for people looking to go back to school, whether it is to finish a degree, advance their current career or start a whole new one.
For many of us, we do not have the luxury of being able to devote ourselves full-time to our studies and we must balance our educational aspirations with our jobs.
It is surely possible, but it can be difficult, especially when you throw in kids or other responsibilities that may be competing for your time. But, with willingness to change and a commitment to fulfilling your dreams, anything is possible.
Adopt Strategies to Handle Stress Better
This may sound like an obvious one, but it is something we often fail to do; we just let stress overwhelm us.
Chances are, if you are going to school and working at the same time, you are going to have your moments of feeling stressed, overwhelmed and that you do not have enough time; you will probably question why you even did this in the first place.
Most of our mental anguish comes not from the situations in our life but the way we look at them; perception is everything and we always have the choice on how to look at stuff.
If you find ways to shift perspective and handle your stress constructively, your chances for success increase dramatically.
You will have greater energy and motivation. Do whatever works for you, whether it is yoga, deep breathing, meditation, exercise, guided imagery…whatever makes you feel good.
When you feel good, you will view the challenges and stresses in a way that is more conducive to getting everything that needs to be done, done.
You may think you do not have time to find ways to be less stressed but you better find it.
Make a Schedule
Again, another obvious thing but something we often do not do. We tend to take whatever the day brings us and try to fit everything in around it; we lack the discipline to do things at certain times.
While you may not be able to stick to your schedule like clockwork every single day, having something to work with will give you structure and optimize use of your time.
One thing to note with a schedule though….when you do go off course, try not to use that as an excuse not to do anything for the day.
It might mean swapping an hour of reality TV for outlining your research paper, but you will need to prioritize.
Get Clear on Your ‘’Why’’
Everything we do has a reason behind it; we want the things we want because we believe they will offer some benefit.
If you are going to make it through the busy time of going to school and work at the same time, you need to get clear on why you want that degree, what benefits it will bring you.
Get as specific as possible; the clearer you are about that, the more motivated you will be to get that life you want.
Being clear on your ‘’why’’ will make the stresses of your schedule easier to handle, make you want to do your best and will ensure you see this through to its completion.
